Scope of Services Training – including seminars and workshops In order to support efforts by the Government of the Dominican Government (GODR) to develop its mining industry, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (U.S. TDA) has awarded a grant for development of institutional capacity for mining environmental management. The Institutional Capacity Development Program (CDP) grant includes funds to cover the following: In order to support efforts by the Government of the Dominican Government (GODR) to develop its mining industry, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (U.S. TDA) has awarded a grant for development of institutional capacity for mining environmental management. The Institutional Capacity Development Program (CDP) grant includes funds to cover the following: • legal and technical review of mining and mining sector environmental laws; • development of regulations specific to mining environmental management; and • training of regulatory staff so that they may properly enforce the new mining sector laws and regulations. The grant also includes provisions for purchasing field sampling equipment; for support and follow up of the training program; for trade development support; and for management and coordination of the overall CDP. To support the CDP, the GODR has committed to match a portion of the grant amount to cover subcontractor fees and the majority of the expenses. It is anticipated that it will take about two years to complete the program. The Unidad Corporativa Minera (UCM) is the sponsoring agency for the grant. The UCM was created by President Mejía, and is specifically charged with privatizing the Government’s mining assets and The grant also includes provisions for purchasing field sampling equipment; for support and follow up of the training program; for trade development support; and for management and coordination of the overall CDP.
